The world of Risen is full of dangers. Disaster looms around every corner. Even the boldest warrior can be doomed by a single incautious step. Fortunate is the hero who knows what lurks in the shadows and how to defend against it!

Although they may appear rather harmless at first glance, wild boars are among the most dangerous animals in the islands. Many an inexperienced adventurer has fallen victim to their murderous tusks and violent fury, and the authorities urgently recommend keeping your distance from them.

Because many of the natural prey animals of the islands have fallen victim to the gluttonous creatures of the underworld, packs of hungry wolves roam the woods, searching for food.

Once at the top of the food chain, wolves are now so starved that they will attack anything and everything they encounter, even if it is a clearly superior opponent. The animals are mad with hunger and, because the bony beasts hunt in packs, no one and nothing is safe from them.

Many a victorious warrior who tried to plunder his opponent after a hard-fought battle has been driven off from his well-earned booty by wolves suddenly emerging from the underbrush. That may be aggravating, but being attacked and mauled by a huge, black wolf for a pair of worn leather boots is just not worth it…

Sea volchers are not an uncommon sight in the Faranga Islands; they are frequently seen squatting on boulders, waiting for their next meal with their cold, staring eyes.

Skeletons are undead beings who have not entered the realm of the dead for reasons which scholars have debated for years, and although skeletons usually appear in cemeteries or ancient crypts, they are not precisely creatures of the underworld.

Thunder lizards are the largest natural inhabitants of the island. These animals, eight to ten meters long, are herbivores and usually peaceful – at least, as long as no one comes too close to them, because they are extremely territorial and defend their territory with brutal violence against everyone and everything that crosses their path.

Ghouls are creatures of the underworld, which prefer to haunt the ancient ruins to which they appear to have a mysterious connection.

Rotworms are creatures of the underworld which spend their lives digging through swampy regions and morasses on the search for food; normally, they are not found on the surface.

Unlike the blind ashbeasts, who avoid the light of day, ogres prefer life in the upper world, where they are primarily found in barren, remote mountain regions.

Ashbeasts take their name from their ash-gray pelt and the fact that they are usually found in caves and rocky recesses near volcanoes.

Ever since human beings first set foot in the Faranga Islands many years ago, the native gnomes have been as infamous as they are famous.
